MCWO Responds to Gang Rape Sentence
The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO) notes with disbelief the sentence given to three 17 year old boys for raping a 14 year old girl. Incredibly, the report states that both the prosecution and the defence agreed that what had happened was an act of foolishness by three young men who thought their deed to be some achievement. EWL welcomes strong focus on women’s rights in new EU approach to human trafficking.
[Brussels, 19 June 2012] The European Women’s Lobby (EWL), the largest coalition of women’s NGOs in Europe, has welcomed the launch today of the new EU Strategy to combat human trafficking, which has a strong focus on women’s rights and gender equality. The Strategy, which aims to provide an integrated, coherent, and outcome-oriented strategy towards the eradication of trafficking in human beings, was presented today by EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström. Public Dialogue at Europe House on ‘Empowering Women against Violence’
The European Parliament Information Office in Malta and the MCWO organised a public dialogue entitled ‘Empowering Women against Violence’ on Friday 30th March.
