    MCWO PR on 2011 Global Gender Gap Index - Posted December 18, 2011

    Malta has again ranked 83rd place in The Global Gender Gap Index 2011. This is the same ranking as in 2010, however last year there were 134 countries listed. This year there were 135 countries covered, showingMalta’s position has actually fallen in its ranking. The countries ranked below Malta include Armenia, Hungary, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Tajikistan and Turkey.

As an affiliate of the European Women’s Lobby (EWL), MCWO’s representative actively participates in the work of the EWL Observatory on violence against women including work on the EWL position papers to the European Commission on this area of concern.

  • CEDAW : Rights Commission Rebukes US on Domestic Violence - Posted September 9, 2011

    Washington - In a groundbreaking decision that affirms domestic violence as an international human rights issue, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has ruled that the US should do more to protect victims of domestic violence. The decision marks the first time that an international tribunal has found that the US violated the rights of a domestic violence survivor.

  • Maternity Leave- Malta Most Affected - Posted November 7, 2010

    The Malta Confederation of Women’s Organisations (MCWO) is most disappointed that the majority of EU member states, including Malta voted against the European Parliament’s proposed maternity leave extension from 14 to 20 weeks. Malta as a result is the most affected of all the EU Countries having the lowest maternity leave at a minimum of 14 weeks.

    This is the first ever report of the UN to tackle the subject of discrimination and violence targeted against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.
